Chantay Savage

Chantay Savage is an R&B/dance singer who found modest success in the 1990s with "I Will Survive", in which she reworked the Gloria Gaynor disco anthem.

Before Savage signed a record deal, she parlayed success into gigs as a session musician, singer, and songwriter with artists such as CeCe Peniston and Tanya Blount, she co-wrote Peniston's #1 dance single "We Got a Love Thang". In 1993 she released her first single "If You Believe" from her debut album ...Here We Go, but the single flopped and peaked at #75 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. RCA records decided to give the album a second chance and then released "Betcha'll Never Find". The single became an R&B and dance hit, when it reached the Top 20 on both Billboard's R&B chart, and Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play. The single was also a minor pop hit. Savage followed that single with the double-A sided "Don't Let It Go To Your Head/Give It To Ya", which did worse than her first one, by reaching only #80 on the R&B chart. However, "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" found success on the dance chart, where it peaked at No.14 with the help of its house remixes.

In 1995 she teamed up with Aaliyah, En Vogue, BlackGirl, Mary J. Blige, Vanessa Williams, SWV, and others for the single "Freedom" from the movie Panther. The single hit #18 on Billboard.

Savage took two years off before she returned in 1996 with "I Will Survive" from her second album I Will Survive (Doin' It My Way). The lead single became a moderate smash in the U.S., where it reached #5 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, but also #6 in Japan and #12 in the UK. The single was also certified Gold by the RIAA for US single sales of over 500,000 units. RCA records didn't release a follow up single, though the album hit #1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. In 1997 she, along with Deborah Cox, Heavy D, and Brownstone performed Janet Jackson's #1 single "That's the Way Love Goes" at the Soul Train Music Awards tribute to the popular icon. In 1998 Savage scored another minor hit with "Reminding Me (Of Sef)", performed by Common. It was a top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot Rap chart.

In 1999 she released her third album This Time. Its sales were poor, despite critical acclaim and MTV and BET exposure of its first single "Come Around" which peaked at #62. Savage wrote all the lyrics and played piano and drums.

As of 2005 she is working on a new album. No release date has been set. [1]

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
