Dirt Merchants

Boston rockers Dirt Merchants were formed in March of 1992 by the guitar-drums brother duo of Mike and John Malone. Enlisting Maria Christopher on vocals and a college friend of Mike's on bass, Alex Kisch, Dirt Merchants issued a debut single shortly thereafter, "Mindfuck" b/w "Beware of Dog," released in 1993 on their own V-Hold label. Another single was issued in 1994, "Purple Barrel" b/w "Love Apnea," making the quartet one of Boston's fastest rising rockers on the scene (winning radio station WBCN's Rock 'n' Roll Rumble the same year). By 1995, the group was signed to the New York independent label Zero Hour, issuing their debut full-length in April of the same year, titled Scarified. The album attracted the attention of Epic, who signed the band and reissued the album in February of 1996.

The DM's Epic follow-up "The Speed At Which You Speak", recorded with producers Tom Rothrock & Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith, Foo Fighters) has never been officially released. The 1997 limited edition "Swiss Bank EP" was reissued digitally in March of 2008 and "Rarified", a collection of b-sides and rarities is slated for release in 2008 as well.

2) Dirt Merchants are a Hip Hop group based in Nothern California. They fuse back-to-basics Hip Hop with a progressive sound.

The trio includes producer: Bennet, emcee: Maddix and DJ: DJ Duke-I. Their music combines a raw and original production effort, politically charged, self concious and aggressive battle lyrics with turntabilism, which has been unappreciated by many underground Hip Hop artists.

The Dirt Merchants released their debut album in 2006 titled "Something From Nothing" which received widespread attention in the West Coast area. They're just finishing off their latest album to be released in the fourth quarter of 2007.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
