The Fireman is the moniker given to electronic music experiments created by Paul McCartney and Youth. It is very likely that the name "The Fireman" was chosen as Paul's "tip of the hat" to George Harrison's metaphor for shouldering the responsibility as a surviving Beatle.[original research?] In an 1987 Rolling Stone interview by Anthony DeCurtis (RS 887), Harrison noted, "I don't think you can ever retire. I feel like someone who is like, say, a fireman. He doesn't sit around in his fireman's suit all his life. But when he goes to work, he puts it on and gets on his fire engine."
In 1993, the duo of McCartney and Youth released its first album, Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest, and followed that with Rushes in 1998. In 2000, Youth also took part in McCartney's similarly styled Liverpool Sound Collage. The duo's most recent album, Electric Arguments, is available on its Web site.
In June 2008, McCartney's official Web site announced that a track called "Lifelong Passion (Sail Away)," from the album Electric Arguments would be issued as a limited-edition download to fans who donated to the charity Adopt-A-Minefield. The album was released on the label One Little Indian on 24 November 2008. The new album features more traditional songs, in which there are vocals (the first time on any of their albums). The majority of the album's vocals come from McCartney.
