The Getaway People is an alternative pop / rock band from Stavanger, Norway that mixes variuos styles like hip-hop, lo-fi, surf and blues to create their own special style and sound.
They formed in 1994 releasing their self-titled debut album in the US in 1998. This was followed by a long US tour that influenced their second album, Turnpike Diaries (released in 2000) both lyrically and musically.
The band split up in 2002, cancelling their deal with Columbia Records. Since then the lead singer, Ottestad, released a somewhat successful self-titeld solo album in Norway.
