Hiroshima

There are at least three artists called Hiroshima: an American jazz band, a Swedish punk band and a Uruguayan heavy metal band.

1)
Hiroshima is an American jazz fusion band formed in 1974 by Sansei Japanese American Dan Kuramoto (wind instruments and band leader), June Kuramoto (koto), Johnny Mori (percussion and taiko), & Danny Yamamoto (keyboards and drums). Named for the Japanese city of Hiroshima they are best known for the fusing of Japanese music and other forms of world music into their playing. The highlight for Hiroshima was being an opening performance for the late Miles Davis 1990 world tour. Since then, despite moving towards new age music, Hiroshima continues to gain a wider audience for their music.

June Kuramoto is the only founding member who is not American-born. She was born in Saitama-ken and moved to Los Angeles at a young age.

Their music was featured in the 1989 film Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

2)
A swedish punk band, active between 1994 and 1997, is also called Hiroshima.
Originally the band was named Skrotum, but right before their first demo was printed they decided to change their name to Hiroshima, because they realised there already existed a band named Skrotum. When they later in their career realised there also was a band already named Hiroshima it was too late to change it.

Their music is sometimes considered a blend between swedish eighties-punk (Higly influenced by bands like Asta Kask and Strebers) and metal.

Discography:
Ödeland (demo 1994, reprinted as cd 1995)
Våld Föder Våld (CD 1995)
Brända Broar (CD 1997)

3)
A Uruguayan young heavy metal band originally formed by Daniel Gómez (guitar) y Antonio Varela (voice), Andrés Sena (bass guitar), after many changes they added Dani Perez (drumms) to the band; later on they Niko Rodríguez (voice) takes Antonio Varela's place as singer till the present.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
