The Horrors

The Horrors are a British Garage Rock and Shoegaze band who formed in mid-2005. They released their debut album Strange House, which reached number 37 on the UK Albums Chart, in 2007. Their second album Primary Colours was released in 2009 and reached number 25 in the UK.

Formed by ace faces of the East London and Southend-on-sea angular scene in 2006, The Horrors have released six singles and two albums for Loog and an EP in the US. They have already been on the front cover of NME, despite their singles being so limited that they are already considered collectors’ items.

After releasing several singles they released their debut album ‘Strange House’ in 2007. Strange House is primarily a Garage Rock album with elements of Horror Punk, and the album contains several of the Horrors previous singles,They made a number of festival appearances throughout 2007 to support the album, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, various Scandinavian festivals, the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, and Splendour in the Grass in Australia. They also supported the Arctic Monkeys. The Horrors began working on the follow up to Strange House. The result was 2009’s Primary Colours which marked a major change of direction away from Garage Rock to Shoegaze and Post-Punk, The album was met with critical acclaim and was announced as one of the twelve albums shortlisted for the year’s Mercury Prize award and it named the best album of the 2009 by NME. The Horrors took to the road to support album including slots at Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, Hurricane Festival, T in the Park, Underage Festival and many others. In addition to this the band opened for The Kills, Nine Inch Nails, Placebo and played a string of headline dates across America and Europe. The Horrors have recently finished an Australian Tour and plan to head into the Studio to begin writing new material.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
