Ladae was one of Motown’s rare new discoveries in the 1990s. Combining the influences of various soul/R&B artists from the past several decades, they became known for their sweet harmonies, smooth ballads and sensuous love songs.
Early on, the group was introduced to Al B. Sure!, who helped them record the demo that resulted in their first recording contract with Island Records. Their debut album was launched in 1994 on that label, but it is said that Ladae! parted ways with the label shortly afterwards due to misunderstandings about their creative freedom. The group was then introduced to one Brian Palmer, whom they looked to for help in creating a unique sound. Once again a record deal was signed, but this time with Al B. Sure!’s ABSolute Recordings, with distribution through Motown Records.
