Lamb

Several bands have used the name "Lamb" over the years.

1. The most widely-known Lamb hails from Manchester, England, and is commonly associated with the trip-hop genre during the 90s and 00s. They incorporated into their musical style a distinctive mixture of jazz, dubs, breaks, and drum 'n' bass with a strong vocal element and, in their later works especially, some acoustic influences. They are known for their highly experimental work, a distinctive production style, Lou's often passionate lyrical style, and their artistic videos.

Their most well known track to date is Gorecki, from their eponymous debut album ("Lamb") and inspired by Henryk Górecki's Third Symphony, the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. Several of Lamb's songs were used for motion picture soundtracks. Gabriel (from What Sound, the band's third album) featured in the Italian film 3 Metri Sopra il Cielo. Parts of the lyrics to Gorecki were used by Baz Luhrman for some of Satine's final lines in Moulin Rouge, and the track is rumoured to have been covered by Nicole Kidman. Lullaby featured in the credits of Aime ton père (2002; directed by Jacob Berger; starring Gérard Depardieu and his son Guillaume). The trackFivefrom Fear of Fours was used as the intro for Ray Mears' Extreme Survival on the Discovery Channel

In February 2005 they announced that the band members would pursue their own projects, ending their collaboration for now. Their last concerts were in Paradiso, Amsterdam, and were filmed to be used for a live DVD.

Singer Lou Rhodes started the Infinite Bloom record label, and has released her first own solo album Beloved One in 2006, followed by Bloom. Producer Andy Barlow focused on his band Hoof.

2. Perhaps the first group using the name Lamb was formed by Barbara Mauritz and Bob Swanson in San Francisco in the late 1960s. This group disbanded in 1972.

3. Another Lamb is a messianic Jewish pop music group formed in 1972 by Joel Chernoff and Rick "Levi" Coghill. This group has recorded as recently as 2005 (with Ted Pearce replacing Rick Coghill).

4. Finally, Lamb is also the name of a Japanese duo from Tokyo, formed in 1999. Kudo sings, Nakamura does everything else. They make pretty, light-hearted, chilled-out pop.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
