Rael Pestana

Pestaña is an electropop band from Lima, Peru. It actually consists of Leonardo Bacteria (lead vocals, programming) and Adri Vainilla (vocals), supported during live shows by Fad 21 (synthesizers). They define their music as "electrostupidity", due to their basic arranging & programming, their parodic lyrics and their "anti-artistic" philosophy.

The band was formed in 2004, after frontman and producer Bacteria quit his previous industrial/grindcore solo project (called 'Insumisión'), while exploring a more commercial, techno-pop sound. He recluted female vocalist Diana Exorcism and keyboard player Niño Bolsita, and inmediatly started performing in Lima's alternative & subcultural scene.

They first released a self-titled EP in 2005, containing 5 tracks, under Bacteria's independent label, Ya Estás Ya Producciones. The EP was literally destroyed by academic music reviewers, but gained them sympathy from a non-classic audience of pop listeners. Some tunes gained a huge fan-base amongst the peruvian upperclass, specially "Alcurnia", a catchy industrial/pop track with racist lyrics, like most of his songs, their most popular song to date, and the most requested to be played on live concerts. At the end of the year, keyboard player Niño Bolsita left the project, and a new programmer/keyboard performer, Dante Droid 2600, joined the band for future releases and live acts.

On that same year, they released a cover from an Aerolineas Federales song, "Lárgate", featured on a tribute album that payed homage to that same famous spanish pop band from the eighties (in whom Pestaña based some of their musical influences).

"Lárgate" eventually was released as a videoclip in 2006. The music video did not received any TV airings, but was posted on YouTube, and contributed to increase the band's internet diffution. On 2006 they released their second EP, "La Perra Del Hortelano", under an independent label from Mexico, Molécula Records. They also recruted a new band member, Ale Hop (guitars).

Early in 2007, they featured another cover song for another compilation, this time on a tribute album for Christina Rosenvinge, a female spanish artist, very popular during late eighties and nineties. The song, called "Sylvia cometió un error", belonged to one of Christina Rosenvinge's many musical projects, Alex y Christina. On March 2007, Diana Exorcism and DanteDroid 2600 quit the band, and new vocalist Adri Vainilla remains till day, just in time to record an split album, along with a couple of spanish-speaking bands, called 'Three Way CD', which was released on July.

As in 2008, they're preparing their first full-lenght album, again under mexican indie record label Molécula Records.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
