Skank

Skank is a pop/rock/reggae band in Brazil. The band started 1991, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

The debut album, Skank (1993), was successful around the underground circuit. The second album, "Calango", came out in 1994 . “É Proibido Fumar”, “Te Ver”, “Pacato Cidadão”, “Jackie Teckila” and “Esmola” were the biggest hits.

In 1996, “Garota Nacional”, the single of "O Samba Poconé" gave Skank international success. The band travelled around the world, performing in Latin America, United States and Europe. In 1998, FIFA included “É uma partida de futebol” in the official World Cup soundtrack album.

From 1998 to 2004, Skank recorded 5 more albums: Siderado (1998), Maquinarama (2000), MTV ao Vivo em Ouro Preto (2001), Cosmotron (2003) and Radiola (2004). As of 2004, they have sold yet approximately 5,000,000 copies.

The last album Carrossel (2006) has less sound effects than the other albums, improving the harmony between vocals and guitar. “Uma canção é pra isso” and “Mil acasos” quiclky became radio hits and video clips.

Band members: Samuel Rosa (vocal and guitar), Henrique Portugal (keyboard), Lelo Zanetti (bass), Haroldo Ferreti (drums).

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
