Vanna

Vanna is a metalcore band from Boston, MA. They formed in December 2004 with just Evan Pharmakis and Nick Lambert and recorded their first demo in a dorm room at MassArt using a drum Machine. Soon they recruited drummer Brandon Davis (who at the time was playing guitar for the band Therefore I Am), bassist Shawn Marquis, and vocalist Joe Bragel.

They then recorded and self released their first E.P. "This Will Be Our Little Secret". The Six song E.P. quickly helped the band gain a strong local fan base. It was this E.P. that helped them get noticed and on November 15, 2005, the band was signed to Epitaph Records. In March 2006 they released a split Vinyl E.P. with Therefore I Am, only 500 copies were pressed and right before it was released Joe left the band for personal reasons. After the departure of Joe they recruited Chris Preece to fill in the vocal spot.

Then they recorded their Epitaph debut but due to legal reasons Chris could not do the vocal parts so Nick and Evan did the vocals on the record. The E.P. "The Search Party Never Came" was released June 6, 2006. After its release the band toured for the whole summer and into the fall and on October 25 they traveled to Seattle, Washington to record their first full length album with Producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Norma Jean, The Fall of Troy, Pearl Jam). They recorded through November and up until December 19. After coming home they took the month of January off and in February began touring again with The Esoteric and playing a few Dates on the 2007 Epitaph Tour.

On January 23rd, 2007 the song "The Things He Carried" was released on purevolume and features vocals from Brendan Brown of The Receiving End of Sirens. Their debut full length "Curses" was released on April 24, 2007 under Epitaph. The band will continue touring in support of the album and is sure to make their impact on the post-hardcore scene.

2) Vanna (Ivana Ranilović Vrdoljak) is a Croatian pop singer. She was born on September 1st, 1970 in Koprivnica, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). Although she won prizes in various national children and youth festivals, her official debut was at Zagrebfest, a contest held in the Croatian capital Zagreb in 1989. In that year she left her hometown to live and study in Zagreb and whilst studying, she performed in a band called BOA.

In 1992 her professional career as a singer was launched. She joined a band called ET (Electro Team) and became an instant star. She co-wrote of all the songs performed by ET and as a member of the band won many Croatian music awards.

In 1997, Vanna left ET to start a solo career and record her first album, "I to sam ja." Vanna has since recorded four more solo albums and has won several other prizes. She came first at Zadarfest (held in Zadar) three years in succession (1999, 2000 and 2001). Her album "24 sata" reached gold.

In 2000 she came second in Dora, the Croatian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest with a song written by Bruno Kovačić and Ivana Plechinger. Being runner-up, she decided to participate again in 2001 and now won with Tonči Huljić's song "Strune ljubavi". Shortly after Dora, she gave birth to daughter Jana. Vanna represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 in Copenhagen on May 12, 2001 and finished 10th. She sang the song in Croatian and in English, now entitled Strings Of My Heart.

In 2003 and 2007 she released albums "Hrabra kao prije" and "Ledeno doba," respectively.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
