Wais P

Born on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Wais P is no stranger to the industry or the streets. Growing up, Wais was exposed to the crack/cocaine epidemic as well as the prostitution rings that ran rampant during the Reagan administration. This tumultuous upbringing quickly pulled the young Wais into the school of hard knocks, where he received an education that could not be acquired through any accredited university. From these early experiences, Wais quickly realized that his survival instinct was his gift of gab, a skill set that he further mastered through rapping. It didn’t take long before Wais linked with two childhood friends, J Runnah & H.A.P.H., both of whom shared similar interests in hip-hop & soon decided to form the group Da Ranjahz. In 1996, Da Ranjahz released the NYC underground banger "Daily Basis" produced by Big Jaz. It didn’t take long for the group’s talent to be recognized Jay Z, where they were later signed to Hova’s Carter Faculty imprint through Roc-A-Fella Records in 1998. Later that same year, both Wais & H.A.P.H. were featured on Jay Z’s grammy award winning, five times platinum album, Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life on the record’s third track, "If I Should Die." Following the release of Hard Knock Life, Da Ranjahz signed with Def Jam through Jay’s short lived Carter Faculty imprint, but shortly thereafter the group exited their label situation before releasing any material through the house that Sean Carter built. Da Ranjahz would end up releasing their debut album Who Feels It Knows independently and gained an industry buzz with their DJ Premier produced single “Insp Her Ation” featuring Cee-Lo (Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley).

During the continuous promotional campaigns to the west coast for Who Feel It Knows, Wais reinvented his gift of gab that he acquired as an adolescent and applied it towards women. Wais quickly found an angle that had previously not been used through New York’s rap scene…pimping. Under the apprenticeship of some of the nations top pimps, Wais soon altered his moniker to Wais P. Echoing the words once quoted by Big Daddy Kane, “Pimpin Ain’t Easy”, Wais P’s music career took a back seat to the day-to-day activities of his new-found profession.

Wais P is determined to rediscover his foothold in the game. Wais is on a solo mission, spitting game on a profession he knows first hand delivering the recent mixtape Its In The Game featuring the singles "You See It" produced by Dj Premier & the Sebb & Deric Angelettie assisted "Pendejos"and cohosting ShowOff Radio on Shade45 with Statik Selektah.as he gears up for his debut solo album Pimpin Saved My Life which is being executive produced by Deric Angelettie.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
