American Music Channel Honors Musicians on Call

American Music Channel is thrilled and honored to present our first “Giving Back” Campaign aligning with the deeply touching and heart embracing non-profit organization Musicians on Call.

Our mission at American Music Channel is to create “Heart with Soul,” a potent combination that touches lives, brings hope, and creates a gentle revolution of “Intentional Goodness” ultimately bringing into being a powerful difference in our world.

That is exactly what Musicians on Call embodies!

Chances are you’ve probably had the experience of being in the hospital or visiting someone there. Imagine that you’re in one of those settings and it has been a difficult day - a Musicians On Call volunteer guide knocks on your door asking if you’d like to hear some music and a volunteer musician comes in and plays a song just for you by your bedside.

Musicians On Call has seen miraculous changes – someone who hadn’t moved in ages and manages to move his foot a little to the music, someone who smiles for the first time since she’s been in the hospital, someone whose day just got a little brighter by hearing a favorite song.

Musicians On Call is a non-profit organization, formed in 1999, that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities. Musicians On Call uses music to promote and complement the healing process. To date, they’ve played for over 145,000 individuals. They have also sent over 260 CD Pharmacies to healthcare facilities – boxes of hundreds of CDs with CD Discmen for patient use.

This summer, Musicians On Call is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. To honor this amazing milestone, they are aiming to raise $10,000 in 10 weeks to help continue their potent mission to bring music to the bedsides of patients.

A $10 donation brings one song to the bedside of a patient.

You can go to musiciansoncall.org to donate $10 to $1000 and create a personal fundraising page to share with others.

It’s amazing to see what one song can do firsthand. Here’s a story from one of the volunteers for Musicians On Call in Philadelphia that demonstrates the healing power of music:

We were assigned to go to a long-term care facility in the Philadelphia area.

In one of the rooms we entered there was a severely handicapped child that was around 5 years old but looked like he was 2 or 3. He was in a crib and had a diaper on. When I came in he was lying on his side slightly rocking back and forth.

I asked the nursing assistant if it was okay to play a song for him and she responded, "Go ahead, but it doesn't matter. He doesn't respond to anything."

I asked, "What is he deaf?"

She said, "No."

So I played the theme from Sesame Street. He got up on his hands and knees and started rocking to the beat of the music. Then he started to make noises like he was trying to hum along. He actually laughed and smiled in my direction.

The nursing assistant was flabbergasted. With her mouth wide open she said, "Oh my God." Then she went in the hall and got the head nurse to come in with another nurse. They too were amazed.

Within everyone is a song just waiting to be sung.

Musicians On Call has Bedside Performance Programs in New York, Philadelphia, and Nashville, and is opening a chapter in Miami this fall. With 25 weekly programs and CD Pharmacies at facilities around the country, Musicians On Call is growing fast and touching so many lives through the healing power of music.

Without the kind-hearted volunteers and financial donations from generous people around the world, none of this would be possible.

Let’s create “Intentional Goodness” and help Musicians On Call continue to deliver the healing power of music!

There is no donation too small or too large – every penny makes a difference.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
