Gotye’s Making Mirrors Out TODAY (Universal Republic)

Announced As February’s VH1 You Oughta Know Artist

US TV Debut February 1st on Jimmy Kimmel Live!; 2012 US Tour Begins February 2nd in Los Angeles

“Making Mirrors finds Gotye making the most of a canny notion: that the pop sounds of the '80s didn't fall out of fashion so much as fall victim to dated production. By freshening up the feel but maintaining the drama, he lands on a batch of songs timeless enough to survive the next 30 years.” –NPR

“Gotye’s weird admixture of borrowed and invented makes for the warmest, most accessible bedroom pop album in memory.” –Washington Post

“His newest album, Making Mirrors, is a bold attempt to push his production constructs into the realms of human, field and live instrumental recordings. The result is a successful marriage of everything from dub to Motown…” –Filter

“The offbeat Aussie surrounds last summer’s surprise Internet hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” with the kind of atmospheric, dub-inflected pop and yearning vocals that would make Peter Gabriel proud.” –Entertainment Weekly

Australian-native Walter De Backer, also known as Gotye, is taking America by storm in 2012. On the heels of Gotye’s highly anticipated US debut Making Mirrors, out TODAY (Samples'n'Seconds Records/Fairfax Recordings/Universal Republic), Gotye will hold the coveted title of VH1’s You Oughta Know Artist for the month of February. Stream Making Mirrors in full on NPR.org HERE.

Gotye will also be making his US television debut February 1st on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he will perform his hit “Somebody That I Used To Know,” featuring Kimbra. To date, the track and video are viral sensations racking up over 55 million views on YouTube; check it out HERE:

“Somebody That I Used To Know” has rocked radio waves and sales charts, selling an astounding 200k in one month. It has entered the Hot 100 chart, debuted on the Billboard 200, achieved status as the No. 1 Greatest Gainer at AAA, is already No. 9 on Alternative Mediabase and No. 1 at iTunes Alternative Singles chart. Last week, Making Mirrors reached No. 10 on the iTunes Album Chart.

In support of Making Mirrors, Gotye will be embarking on a near complete sold-out North American tour, culminating at Coachella, Gotye’s first US festival appearance. Kimbra, who is featured on “Somebody that I Used To Know” will be supporting Gotye on all dates.

Making Mirrors, is pop at its most precise, but also electronic music at its most emotional. The record delves into dub, Detroit-era Motown soul, stadium-size politi-pop, synth-folk and world music on glorious, sprawling, huge-hearted songs. Gotye used rare instruments such as the Lowrey Cotillion organ and developed a self-constructed bassline by sampling the Winton Musical Fence that he discovered in the outback of Queensland, Australia. He also sampled sounds he found on vintage records hailing from places like Taiwan and Turkey. Audiences are sure to fall in love with Gotye’s quirky, artful aesthetic and the album’s delightful nuances. Lead single, “Somebody That I Used To Know” has now gone No. 1 in 6 countries, and counting.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
