Nashville, TN - November 10, 2010

Jeffrey, 12..Sean, 10..Katie, 8..Grace, 6 They are The McDougal Kids!
Their parents, Greg and Diane McDougal launched a project just over 4 years ago called The purpose of this project was simple. To raise the necessary funds to help them build a special "allergen free" house.

The family had lived in several rental homes that served up various unforeseen elements that put one or more of the McDougal kids in the hospital. Oh, BTW 3 of the 4 kids have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and have had numerous hospital stays, including surgery on a right lung. The McDougal Kids are living their life knowing that each day has struggles of its own (i.e. treatments, meds, breakfast, homeschool, doctor appts. finances, hospital stays, etc.) And, they will greet each day with faith and determination to it's fullest! Well they are doing just that!
On October 11, there were almost 30 contestants entered in the talent show for The ICM Awards convention. Not merely a collection of 'mom and pop' amateurs but some real talent.
The judges were no strangers to the music industry either - John Ozier: Director of A&R - Curb Records, Jimmy Nichols: President and Director of A&R - Black River Music Group, Marcina Clark: New Haven Records, and Leigh Cappillino: Member of Point Of Grace - ICM's 2010 Entertainer Of The Year! And, the show was hosted by Laura Dodd, 2010 ICM New Artist Of The Year.

The winners of the contest were announced on Wednesday night, October 13th. The McDougal Kids and their parents made their way up to the stage in front of a joyful and supportive crowd. They will recieve a 3 song recording session with producer, Gene Higgins and a single release to radio from HMG Nashville.

The McDougals began traveling out telling of their story and cause approximately three years ago. Having been introduced to The Christian Country Music Association, they began to network through the organization. They were on a mission to simply sell their CD The Work of a Carpenter to raise some money to get a house built for their kids. Greg and Diane found themselves coming to an understanding that God had raised this mission up in their lives for a much greater reason (even as noble as it is), and they have all spent the last two years in full time music ministry. The McDougals have been in over 200 churches in the last 2 years encouraging others in their faith and inspiring so many to trust in God through any and all circumstances.

As they were building the house, they moved into and began traveling in an RV, the children began singing. Greg says that he "hired" the children two years ago to learn an old Gospel favorite, "The Lighthouse," to sing for family at Christmas time. They have been singing it ever since to the delight and amazement of everyone who hears them. "The Lighthouse" was the song that won the talent contest for these amazing kids.
This very week, as The McDougal Kids and their parents move into this house that they have named "The House That God Built," they are more determined than ever to go and sing and share their miraculous testimony of God's grace and greet each day with Faith, Gratitude and Hope.

As the whole world begins to focus on The United Kingdoms capital city the evangelical music fan in me has ben reminded of the feature I wrote here a couple of years ago on a few of London’s rock and roll hotels. A lot of questions followed, mostly music fans and tourists wanting more specific information.

So, with the Olympics here and with thousands of you heading to London for the sports fiesta, this American based “Londoner” doesn’t want anyone to miss out on a huge opportunity to discover some of London’s greatest musical landmarks. So the next few Music City 411 blogs are going to see me waxing lyrical about the music heritage of my hometown. And for anyone visiting for the first time and wanting to spend some time exploring London’s musical history I’ve highlighted some safe and top-rated music-flavored hotels to make your trip as easy and rewarding as possible. I’ve stayed, eaten and drank in all the places I talk about and traipsed every street been in every venue mentioned and ridden every bus train and taxi recommended.

So let’s start where it all started. The Beatles!
