Garnering comparisons to mega superstars like Jack White is no small feat, nor is amassing enormous accolades from fans and media before having even released a record - but Jack Skuller is anything but normal. He's been called the new face of pop and the new face of rock but the truth is, this 15 year old heartthrob-in-the-making is all original. In his debut EP Driver's Permit, produced by Zach Odum and Kenneth Mount for ZK Productions (Ready Set, All Time Low, Cartel) Jack straddles genres effortlessly, melding the catchiest and most enticing of all worlds into a sound and set of five incredible tunes that are uniquely his own and will likely become the one record that everyone in the family can agree on.
Jack started singing around the age of 7 and started songwriting early with his first tune penned a whole year later. From school talent shows to winning radio station sponsored talent searches, Jack has seen his profile steadily grow and develop. He quickly booked into gigs at New York hot spot venues for up-and-coming talent like Rockwood Music Hall, Joe's Pub and Maxwell's amongst others. His audience is a mélange of teen girls, rocker guys, adults in business suits and everyone in between, just more proof positive that Jack can't be pinned down into one genre. His live show and presence on stage is electric! This multitalented and self-taught superstar in the making draws you in as he alternates guitar, bass, piano and drums, croons with the best of them and shares a passion for music that's infectious.
Driver's Permit is to be applauded both for its gorgeous simplicity as well as its incredible timelessness. Showing a maturity and understanding for emotion well beyond his young years, Jack's songwriting on each and every one of these five tracks is immediately relatable. Opening track, "Love Is A Drum" is equal parts rock and roll while the catchy "S.U.R.E" tells a story of the power and innocence of young love. In a sense, this EP is Jack's love letter to the genre that first inspired him to make music. "I've had my phases of listening to different generations of rock - blues, rockabilly, pop rock, classic rock, punk and even some modern garage rock - and it all shows up on this record. I think the passion and feeling of real rock and roll truly cuts through," says Skuller.
