EL PASO, Texas – Grammy Award winning artist Lee Greenwood will headline the Hyundai Halftime Show at the 77th Annual Hyundai Sun Bowl on Dec. 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium.

“Hyundai is extremely excited to have an artist like Lee Greenwood perform at halftime of the Hyundai Sun Bowl,” said Oscar Leeser, president of Hyundai of El Paso. “His music has been an inspiration to many Americans and I cannot think of a better way to pay tribute to our young men and women serving in our armed forces both locally and abroad.”

Greenwood, who is a two-time Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year, won a Grammy in 1984 and has charted seven No. 1 hits on the Billboard’s country chart.

Best known for his single “God Bless the USA,” Greenwood’s No. 1 hits include — “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Going, Going, Gone,” “Dixie Road,” “I Don’t Mind the Thorns (If You’re the Rose),” “Don’t Underestimate My Love For You,” “Hearts Aren’t Made to Break (They’re Made to Love)” and “Mornin’ Ride.” His 1983 single “I.O.U.” was also a top five hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, and reached No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. A 2001 re-release of “God Bless the USA” became his highest charting pop hit, reaching No. 16 on the Hot 100.

The Hyundai Sun Bowl, sponsored by Hyundai Motor America, will feature the Atlantic Coast Conference against the Pacific-10 Conference. The Hyundai Halftime Show will feature a performance by Lee Greenwood, as well as the marching bands of the participating universities in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

This marks the seventh consecutive year the Hyundai Sun Bowl has featured the halftime show. Previous performers have included Los Lonely Boys, Diamond Rio, Baby Bash, Rihanna, The Village People and David Archuleta.

The Hyundai Sun Bowl is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 31 at noon at Sun Bowl Stadium. The game will be broadcast live nationally in high definition on CBS for the 43rd consecutive year.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
