Grammy Award-Winning & AirPlay Direct Performer Joss Stone Launches New Label

Posted on Thu, Mar 03, 2011 at 12:56 PM

Multiplatinum-selling soul singer/songwriter Joss Stone has announced the formation of Stone’d Records, a new music company based in Bristol, United Kingdom. Longtime music executive Brian Nelson has been appointed General Manager of the new label, whose roster will include Stone, as well as ska/rock band, Yes Sir Boss.

New album releases from Joss Stone and Yes Sir Boss are expected later this year. The first single from the album is a song co-written by Stone called “Back in Style, which is distributed by The Orchard and available to radio exclusively through AirPlay Direct. The track is available now at all digital store fronts worldwide.

“I’m so excited to launch Stone’d Records. This has been a lifetime dream of mine,” says Stone. “I’m passionate about music in its most honest form. That’s why it was so important to me to create a safe haven where great artists are free to do what they do best, create real music without compromise.”

“Joss Stone joins the growing trend of former major label artists who are establishing their own independent labels and utilizing AirPlay Direct as their radio delivery solution,” states Robert Weingartz, CEO of AirPlay Direct. “We welcome Ms. Stone and her label, and look forward to growing a fruitful and successful partnership together.”

“Stone'd Records is devoted to finding unique artists and helping them develop not based on focus groups or market research,” said General Manager Brian Nelson, “But simply because we believe in the art they make.”

About Joss Stone

Stone has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide; has been nominated for five Grammy® Awards, including her most recent nomination for “I Put A Spell on You” with Jeff Beck; appeared onstage with James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Patti Labelle, Mavis Staples, Donna Summer, and Smokey Robinson; performed for The Who at the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors; sat for an interview with Oprah Winfrey; starred in major ad campaigns; and performed for more than 200,000 people at the "Live 8 Concert" in London — all before reaching the ripe old age of 23. Stone’s most recent album, 2009’s Colour Me Free, was released to critical acclaim, including USA Today, which remarked that Stone "sings with more grit and gusto than a battalion of R&B princesses while taking a sledgehammer to pop conventions" and the New York Post which gushed, "the Brit waif is at her bluesy, soul-singer best... it’s in these songs that she finds joy in music that emerges like laughter at a party."

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
