MILOW

Born In The Eighties EP Out July 10th

Young Belgian singer/songwriter Milow has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting break-out artists over the past five years; now US music fans will get to see why. Milow’s first Stateside release, the six-track EP Born In The Eighties, is set for release on July 10th.

Milow’s music gleams with the inherited songcraft of his musical heroes—Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Jack Johnson—but it also reflects a point of view and impressive talent all his own. In Europe he's enjoyed multiple #1s with gold and platinum status and racked up a slew of music awards, including 11 Music Industry Awards (Belgium’s music awards). His eye-popping video for "Ayo Technology" has amassed more than 65 million YouTube views. The stripped-down, slow-burning take on the 50 Cent/Justin Timberlake hit proves that he has the chops to both invent and re-invent – hear it here :

The song stayed on the charts for over 340 weeks in 14 different countries, reaching #1 in several of them. Kanye West is a fan and gave the video props on his blog. The track will be Born In The Eighties’ lead single.

A DIY artist through-and-through, Milow has released all of his music under Homerun Records, his own record label that he started in his bedroom when he was 24. Now, after a recent relocation to Southern California, Milow is finding that American audiences can be just as warm as European ones. Earlier this year he made his U.S. television debut on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly – watch it here. Milow has shared the stage with Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz and Brett Dennen and he recently completed a hugely popular residency at LA's Hotel Café.

Born in the Eighties showcases the many sides of Milow. His insightful songwriting is featured in the coming-of-age title track while“Dreamers and Renegades” reveals a harder-rocking edge. The infectious “One of It” demonstrates why Milow concerts tend to become mass sing-a-longs and “Out of My Hands” is a stark and tender look at loss.

Milow will be performing with The White Buffalo at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on April 26th and at Belly Up in San Diego on April 28th.

As the whole world begins to focus on The United Kingdoms capital city the evangelical music fan in me has ben reminded of the feature I wrote here a couple of years ago on a few of London’s rock and roll hotels. A lot of questions followed, mostly music fans and tourists wanting more specific information.

So, with the Olympics here and with thousands of you heading to London for the sports fiesta, this American based “Londoner” doesn’t want anyone to miss out on a huge opportunity to discover some of London’s greatest musical landmarks. So the next few Music City 411 blogs are going to see me waxing lyrical about the music heritage of my hometown. And for anyone visiting for the first time and wanting to spend some time exploring London’s musical history I’ve highlighted some safe and top-rated music-flavored hotels to make your trip as easy and rewarding as possible. I’ve stayed, eaten and drank in all the places I talk about and traipsed every street been in every venue mentioned and ridden every bus train and taxi recommended.

So let’s start where it all started. The Beatles!
