Jill Andrews' Debut Album, "The Mirror," Out Today

Posted on Tue, Jun 07, 2011 at 2:23 PM

Jill Andrews' debut album, The Mirror is out today via Thirty Tigers/Liam Records. You can hear the full album this week on Spinner at: http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/30.

The Mirror has already received praise from press, including Paste Magazine who named it one of "five summer debuts to get excited about." American Songwriter Magazine gave the album 4 stars and says, "'The Mirror' is a portrait of emotional endurance, and as such is a promise that Jill Andrews is at the beginning of a wonderful and long-abiding career." Metromix.com adds, "Andrews delivers on her first full-length, a personal collection of songs that touch on hope, loss and love. Mixing folk and pop, Andrews has written some of her strongest songs to date..." Her hometown also agrees, "'The Mirror' reflects well on Jill Andrews." (knoxville.com)

Recorded with Scott Solter (Superchunk, The Crooked Jades) in North Carolina and Neilson Hubbard (Glen Phillips, Matthew Perryman Jones) in Nashville, The Mirror nudges Andrews' folksy roots into an effortless, classic-pop sensibility and keen eye for human drama. Much of the new album's production cost was aided by fan contributions via Kickstarter. The album's title track is impacting radio now, and a video is currently in the works.

Performing songs off her debut, Jill Andrews will head out on a North American summer tour in direct support for acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician JD Souther. The tour kicks off June 12th in Carrboro, NC with stops along the way in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles (complete list of tour dates below).

Andrews hails from Knoxville, TN where she spent five years touring with her band The Everybodyfields. A rock-solid front woman in sundresses and Frye boots, now, Andrews offers up a vision of herself as a singular, quickly maturing artist with the power to cross lines of genre and geography, taste and time. She is a force-and a voice-to be reckoned with.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
