Marques Toliver on NPRs World Cafe - 12" Vinyl EP release and Upcoming Tour news

Posted on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 at 11:04 AM

"The four songs on Toliver's debut EP, Butterflies Are Not Free, burst with passionate songwriting in the style of what he calls "bohemian noir." In this self-appointed genre, Toliver's vocals brim with rich, emotional tones that hover above his careful string arrangements."

Marques Toliver had the honor of stopping by NPR's World Café with David Dye yesterday, where he performed some of his material, and took part in an engaging interview about his early days in New York and London busking in the subway and off the Bedford Ave L stop where he met and eventually began collaborating and touring with musicians like Grizzly Bear, Holly Miranda, and TV on The Radio among others. He explains the inspiration behind his music, which he calls "Bohemian Noir" drawing upon his classical training as a violinist as well as the writings of individuals such as Frederick Douglass and the author Garth Nix.

‘Music City 411- Robin Gibb Tribute

By: Andrew Vaughan

It’s truly heartbreaking to see the pain Robin Gibb’s family is going through right now. The Bee Gees singer is in a coma after suffering with liver cancer and most recently pneumonia. Of course, several big name pop acts have passed away recently- Davy Jones of The Monkees probably the most recent. Now I knew Davy to talk to but I’d never met his family. Which is why hearing about the Gibb family’s pain surrounding Robin is so difficult to handle.
