The Like

The Like formed in September 2001 in Los Angeles, California, when best friends Charlotte Froom(bass) and Tennessee "Jane Bunny" Thomas(drums) met Elizabeth "Z" Berg(guitar/vocals) and found the voice and songs they had been looking for. Almost immediately, the ladies began to garner local praise and attention, surprising their audiences with a complexity belying their very young years (two 15 year olds and a 16 year old at the time).

All three band members benefited greatly from being the children of music industry veterans.

The name of the band comes from the girls tendency to frequently use the word "like" in the style of the valley girls of LA.

Over a period of three years, the band independently released three EPs (I Like The Like, ...and The Like, and Like It or Not), which they sold at shows and on their website. Their song "(So I'll Sit Here) Waiting" was featured on the soundtrack of the film Thirteen. Soon a diverse fan base developed and magazines around the world began to take notice. Following their high school graduations in 2004, The Like signed to Geffen Records and toured with Phantom Planet and Maroon 5, bands which, like The Like, are part of a Los Angeles music scene that also includes bands such as Rooney and Giant Drag. Since forming, The Like have drawn major media attention and have being featured in magazines such as Teen People and Rolling Stone.

They toured with Tori Amos on her Summer of Sin tour, and with Kings of Leon. The Like released their first album, Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?, through Geffen on September 13, 2005. The album is a combination of reworked songs previously released on their independent EPs as well as new material. The band performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and at the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, London. In September 2006 The Like supported Muse on a short string of tour dates in the U.S., before heading to Europe to support Razorlight.

The Like transcend all the easy labels that one may be inclined to attach to them: all girl band, teenage band, LA band, etc. They simply write beautiful music, and possess an irresistible collective personality.

American Music Channel is “Giving Back” through creating philanthropic campaigns that align charitable organizations and artists to make a difference in our world.

By : Andrew Vaughan

As the whole world begins to focus on The United Kingdoms capital city the evangelical music fan in me has ben reminded of the feature I wrote here a couple of years ago on a few of London’s rock and roll hotels. A lot of questions followed, mostly music fans and tourists wanting more specific information.

So, with the Olympics here and with thousands of you heading to London for the sports fiesta, this American based “Londoner” doesn’t want anyone to miss out on a huge opportunity to discover some of London’s greatest musical landmarks. So the next few Music City 411 blogs are going to see me waxing lyrical about the music heritage of my hometown. And for anyone visiting for the first time and wanting to spend some time exploring London’s musical history I’ve highlighted some safe and top-rated music-flavored hotels to make your trip as easy and rewarding as possible. I’ve stayed, eaten and drank in all the places I talk about and traipsed every street been in every venue mentioned and ridden every bus train and taxi recommended.

So let’s start where it all started. The Beatles!
