Can I enter more than one song?
Yes, enter as many songs as you wish. But an artist can only be selected once as a finalist per quarter.
How much does it cost to enter?
$49.00 per quarterly contest
What are the deadlines to enter?
Submissions can be uploaded at any time, the voting tallies are used every two weeks to promote contestants to the finals for each quarter.
Can my song be rejected?
Yes. The Country Showdown and American Music Channel maintain strict playability rules and have the final authority to accept or reject any song with no explanation provided, although we will try our best to give feedback about why a song might have been rejected.
Are international entries accepted?
Who can vote?
Only those who have registered on SoundEmerge can vote. You can have people sign up by clicking on the "Like" button of any song entry in the Country Showdown Songwriting Competition.
How does the voting work?
Voting is simple! Bi-weekly finalists will be selected strictly from on-line voting conducted by industry insiders and fans registered on SoundEmerge. It's each songwriter's responsibility to build their "fan base" by encouraging friends, family etc. to vote for their song. The top 5 songs with the most votes are then promoted to the finals, with a spare spot reserved as a judges "wild card." All decisions are final.
Do I lose ownership of my song by entering?
No. By entering the contest, you only license Country Showdown and American Music Channel to post your song to its website and media outlets and, if it is selected, name you as a finalist/winner. You may remove your song at the end of each quarterly contest and retain all rights.
Can there be co-writers on the song?
Yes. All co-writers / co-owners of the song must be listed on the submission (along with contact information to enable us to verify authorship). Each song submitted must be original work and must not have been previously released by, licensed to or placed under contract for commercial sale with any other party. Songs shall not infringe upon copyrights or any other rights of any third party.
Does a poor recording affect my chances of winning?
Only if it affects the ability of the insider/fan to listen to the song and interpret the lyrics.
What music format do you accept?
The SoundEmerge platform accepts mp3, mp4, .mov, and YouTube/Vimeo submissions. File size limits apply for the various formats.
What genre of music is accepted?
The contest is limited to Country/Americana songs, although we are planning to have similar contests for other genres in the future.
Can I submit a song with just vocals (no music) or an instrumental?
Yes. You can sing your song a capella, accompany it with a guitar, or a full band.
How will I know if I win or the status of the competition?
The top leaders are updated daily on the contest website. Also, voting totals will accompany each song listing; you can sort your view to include only contest entrants by popularity. The winners will be announced bi-weekly and contacted by email or direct messaging through social media.
What happens if I am selected as a finalist or if I win?
You will be notified by Country Showdown and SoundEmerge via the email addresses provided on your profile. Winners will be asked to produce a copyright form and/or a public notary to prove and verify the ownership of their song. Once your song eligibility and address is verified, a prize package will be mailed.
What are the prizes?
Each bi-weekly finalist will receive promotional prizes and a spot in the final quarterly competition. In addition, their song will be featured on American Music Channel's website as a "Featured Song" for the following bi-weekly period. Each quarter, a grand prize winner will be selected from the finalists and will win $1,000 along with a promotional package, an A&R mentoring package and a variety of other perks.
