Mild scoliosis may not show any visible symptoms, but more severe scoliosis can lead to pain in the back, unevenly aligned shoulders or hips, and respiratory trouble. Diagnosis is usually made using a combination of physical examination, history, and imaging tests, i.e., X-rays or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Cobb angle on X-ray is utilized to grade the severity of scoliosis from mild (10-20°) to severe (> 40°).
