Still Using DeWalt 18V Tools? Here’s What to Know About the Batteries

If you’ve got older DeWalt 18V tools, they can still hold their own—if you’ve got the right battery. The classic DeWalt 18V battery was originally a NiCd type. These are heavier and don’t hold charge as long, but they’re tough and reliable.

DeWalt also makes 18V lithium-ion batteries that fit the same tools. They’re lighter, last longer per charge, and recharge faster. Just make sure you use the correct charger for lithium-ion models.

If your tools still work fine, there’s no need to upgrade. A good battery keeps them going strong. Check the type, charge it right, and you’re good to go.
