Are Plastic Bags Recyclable? Looking for Advice

  I’ve been trying to become more careful about the amount of plastic waste my household produces, and one question keeps coming up: are plastic bags recyclable? I use different types of plastic bags regularly, including grocery bags, produce bags, bread bags, and food storage bags. I know some plastic items can go into recycling bins, but I’m not sure if the same rules apply to plastic bags.

  I’ve noticed that many recycling programs have specific guidelines for plastic film and flexible packaging. Some places seem to accept certain bags through special collection programs, while others tell residents not to put them in regular curbside recycling bins. This makes things confusing because I don’t want to put something in the recycling bin that could cause problems at the recycling facility.

  Another thing I’m wondering about is whether the bags need to be completely clean and dry before recycling. For example, food storage bags may have small amounts of food residue or grease left inside them. Does that mean they cannot be recycled, or is there a proper way to clean them first?

I’ve heard that some grocery stores and retail locations have collection bins, but I’m not sure how widely available these programs are.
