I tried DIY smart home device installation six months ago and now realizing I’m in over my head. About 30% of my devices randomly disconnect, some automations work intermittently, and my wife threatens to rip everything out weekly. I have 40+ devices across three different brands, two hubs, and everything connects to a single router. Smart switches sometimes respond to voice commands, sometimes don’t. Motion sensors trigger lights but with 5-10 second delays. I’ve spent countless hours troubleshooting forums and YouTube videos. At this point, I’m considering hiring professionals to audit and fix my setup. Has anyone successfully recovered from a botched DIY installation? Is it better to start fresh or can these systems be salvaged? Also wondering if my network infrastructure is the root cause – I have a basic ISP router/modem combo. Would a mesh system and dedicated hub solve these issues? Or do I need to completely rethink my approach? Any advice from someone who’s been in this situation would be greatly appreciated!
