Fellow educators,

I’ve noticed an alarming trend this semester: several of my students appear to be using take my online exam for me services. Their writing styles and knowledge levels suddenly change dramatically during online assessments.

As someone committed to academic integrity, I’m seeking effective strategies to discourage this practice while supporting struggling students. How are you designing assessments to make them more cheat-proof without making them unduly difficult?

I’m considering implementing:

<ul class=”[&:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc space-y-1.5 pl-7″>
<li class=”whitespace-normal break-words”>Open-book exams with critical thinking questions rather than fact-recall
<li class=”whitespace-normal break-words”>Video monitoring during exams
<li class=”whitespace-normal break-words”>Personalized questions based on discussions from class
<li class=”whitespace-normal break-words”>More project-based assessments instead of traditional exams

Has anyone had success with these methods? Also, how are you addressing the underlying issues that drive students toward these “take my online exam for me” services in the first place? I believe preventing academic dishonesty requires both deterrence and support.

Looking forward to your insights!
