Although he first came to attention in the early years of alt-country, singer-songwriter Richard Buckner has built a reputation and loyal following for his lyrically dense songs, which reside squarely in the folk-troubadour tradition, while also pushing at the established boundaries of that field. The carefully constructed sonic landscapes he presented on his 2014 album Surrounded plainly demonstrate that he was anything but trapped in the standard-issue Americana folkie box canyon. That fascinating mix of familiar and avant-garde is sure to be on full display for his Sunday night appearance in Nashville. –RANDY FOX
