How important are samples before clothing production?

I recently learned that getting samples before bulk production can prevent many problems later. Things like sizing, stitching, fabric feel, and colors can look different from what you initially imagine. While researching the process, I came across the apparel partner and started reading more about how clothing brands approach sampling. I’m curious about other people’s experiences with apparel production. How many sample changes did you make before feeling confident about your final design?
