How many days do you really need in Tromsø?

I’m looking at Tromsø for a winter getaway but can’t decide how long to stay. Would three days be enough to explore the city, try some local food, and hopefully catch the northern lights, or is it better to plan for four or five days? I’d love to hear from people who have actually been.
