I created a shortlist of samurai names for a story I’m writing and would love community feedback. I based much of my list but worry some names may not fit well together.
I’m also curious about how meanings impact reader perception — should I pick names with specific attributes like bravery or wisdom? If you have time to look over examples or suggest improvements, I’d really appreciate it.
I’m also doing in-depth research for a novel and want to make sure the samurai names I use are truly historical, tied to real clans and time periods rather than myth or modern inventions. A good first step is to anchor your characters in verified sources that historians use to study Japan’s feudal era.
